Roadtrip 2 Teach

Last weekend was our big event Roadtrip2Teach! It was a lot of work but I had a great time being involved and meeting a lot of great juniors from all over North Carolina. We started our event off by taking the group to downtown Asheville. The bus ride there was an adventure in itself! I've not had the chance to use the public transit system so that was a new experience for me. We went to MellowMushroom for some pizza-- it was delicious! After dinner we split into teams to start our downtown scavenger hunt. I had a lot of fun with this! My group of students were a blast to hang out with and it was fun starting to get to know them a little better. Even though the weather was not ideal, the scavenger hunt downtown was fun and helped the students (and me) enjoy downtown Asheville. The next day was a full day for the juniors! We started early and had breakfast at the dining hall. The had two great sessions with some of the faculty from the education department. After that they got to meet individually with Admissions Counselors and have lunch and a little bit of free time. Later in the afternoon was their tour of the campus. Before dinner in the dining hall we got to put all of the things each group had learned the night before about the different cultures and the different items from each culture into stories that the groups made up and presented for everyone. Finally on the last day the students got to go around to the different halls and learn about majors, clubs and other activities on campus. By 1:00 they were all packed up, had their boxed lunches and were heading back across North Carolina. The weekend was packed full of interesting activities, hopefully the students got a lot of good information about what UNC Asheville has to offer and I personally had a lot of fun being involved and meeting everyone!
