hello world!

My name is Celeste Burkhardt, and I am in my second year at UNC Asheville. I'm pursuing licensure in secondary math education, and I couldn't be happier! I am also a NC Teaching Fellow, which is a wonderful scholarship program offered at several schools in North Carolina. The picture above is actually from our recent Teaching Fellows trip to New Orleans (see our post, NOLA!). On campus, I'm in one of our two sororities, Gamma Phi Beta, and I also work with other students as an AVID tutor in Asheville City Schools. In my free time, I love to go hiking. Luckily, I live in Asheville so there are plenty of gorgeous places to hike!

I never thought I would want to major in math, but as soon as I got to Asheville and took my first math class, I fell in love with the department and never looked back. I'm looking forward to teaching high school students to love math (I promise it's possible!) the way that I have learned to love it. I am hoping that my position as a Teacher Recruitment Representative at UNC Asheville will allow me to develop my professional skills as well as helping me to network with my future peers!
