Hello everyone! My name is Sophie Ferguson and I am currently a freshman at UNC-Asheville. Although I've only been here for a semester, I love it more and more everyday! I was lucky enough to land a job in the UNCA Education Department for this semester and couldn't be happier. I've wanted to teach for as long as I can remember. I grew up surrounded by little kids and always loved being the oldest and leading everyone around. After working at a daycare last summer, I am sure I want to be a teacher. :) I plan to major in psychology with a teacher licensure in K-6.
Now onto the fun stuff. I grew up singing and dancing. I took dance lessons for about 15 years and loved being a part of my high school chorus. I'm also a big fan of theater. I haven't been able to participate in any productions recently, but I'm always up for going to a show. I love playing the piano and painting too although I don't do either as much as I'd like to. I'm currently on a mission to finish all the Harry Potter books before the last movie comes out (since I never finished them as a kid). I'm almost done with the 3rd one!
Last semester I took a really enlightening education course that gave me a better perspective on the American education system today. We discussed a lot of current issues in our system as well as our many accomplishments. I'm excited to be a part of the public school system eventually so we can work to improve it throughout the nation. I look forward to writing about a lot of the pressing issues facing our schools and hope to spark some interesting thoughts!
