It's that time of year again! Earth Day is probably Asheville's favorite holiday of all, with its art-, diversity-, and nature-loving community. One thing I'm noticing, though, is that Earth Day is not just a celebration of Mother Earth for Asheville, but also a celebration of those of us on Earth. The YMCA is also hosting an event this Saturday called Healthy Kids Day, in order to promote strong, healthy relationships between families. Several thousand people are expected to attend. Musicians will be coming to perform for Asheville's Earth Day celebration, including Toubab Krewe. I'm sure there will be an abundance of community outreach booths amongst the food, music, and environment-centered stations.
I feel so lucky to live in a city that values loving above all else, whether it's the love for nature, love for art, for culture, or just love of love. I find stories like this one about John Davis and his trek across the country so inspiring, and I know that I live in a community full of like-minded people. Everyone in Asheville has a cause, and together we're going to make a dent in the change that this world needs.
Now if only I could convince my parents to let me take 10 months off of life to go for a little hike...
