I recently found this article that seemed very interesting called "College classrooms replace stages for rock stars." This article talks about several rock stars who have started teaching in several colleges in the United States. One star, Steve Miller, recently began teaching at the University of South California's Thornton School of Music. The dean of USC talked about the importance of these stars taking on teaching positions because "it brings the subject matter to life for the students in a way that a professor, no matter how well intentioned, just can't do." I found this very cool because other than being a rock star, they have showed everyone how they can do good for students everywhere by applying their skills to education. The article also spoke of another star, Mark Volman, who runs the entertainment studies department at Nashville's Belmont University. Along with teaching in the music department at their Universities, most of these stars teach other things such as the subjects of Science and Forensic Linguistics, which are a few examples.
Music is such an important subject to me and because of teacher cuts, it seems to be one of subjects that the teacher's are being let go from. I think music needs more attention in the schools everywhere and these rock stars are great examples of people who are trying to save music in the school systems.
