The Life of an RA

Hello again. :)

This has been an interesting week! Much of my time recently has been put into the RA position I've been trying to get for next year. I've considered being an RA for a long time and after much encouragement from some friends, I decided to apply. After getting 3 recommendations, filling out an application, have an individual interview, and a group interview, I got the job!

Now, just in case you're not sure what being a campus RA means exactly, let me explain. An RA, or Residential Assistant, is a student who lives in one of the dorms on campus and keeps their hall in order while providing lots of fun student activities and events. Even more than that, an RA is someone a student can go to for advice, whether it's what professors to avoid to resolving a roommate problem. As a future teacher, I realized that this position is great training for working with people as well as learning to be creative and handle conflicts. Not to mention, it looks great on a resume! So, as possible future teachers yourself, you might want to consider the position. I've heard from a lot of the current RA's (whether planning to be in education or not) who are so glad they chose to become one because of the great experience they've gotten. Not to mention all the crazy stories I've heard! Feel free to visit the UNCA website: http://housing.unca.edu/resident-assistants for more information.
