Did you know…?

If an educator can find a way to make students laugh, and then apply the humor to a lesson plan, then adolescents are more likely to remember what is being taught? It is a fact according to the researchers in this article. However, if you are currently a teacher, I doubt this comes as a surprise.

With that said…

I did some digging and found some jokes, toys, and activities that are humorous and teach my discipline (literature). What is the point of this? If you are a teacher, or if you are considering becoming one, you can surf the web and find jokes, props, toys, and activities for any subject! If nothing else, I am sure your students will love you for the break from constant note taking.

Joke ex: Why did Macbeth never worry about salmonella? He always knew that Lady Macbeth's hands were clean.

Toys ex: Shakespeare insult card game or prop of Shakespeare.

Activities: Have the kids act out scenes from Macbeth. Ask specifically for them to read with over-animated emotion.

The most important thing about all of these exercises is that they prompt giggles-- making students have a positive view of the subject you are teaching.
