There is a music teacher, Greg Breinberg, who had kids doing some pretty amazing things with singing and writing their own lyrics to songs. He made an excellent point by saying that not all kids are "good" at tradtional education-- such as math or science-- and that is why exploring the arts is so important for those kids. It makes them feel worth something.
This reminds me of the idea of multiple intelligences. This website reminded me that even though I could read at age three, I still can't play a violin after 10 years of lessons and I use my cell phone for simple math.
